Use Themes To Make DestroyTwitter Blend Into Your Ubuntu Desktop

View Comments

DestroyTwitter is an Adobe Air based twitter client that is popular with many Ubuntu users. One of it’s lesser known features are its theming abilities.

I’ve chucked together a list of some themes I've used at one time or another to try and help DestroyTwitter to blend into the desktop.

Window Borders

The first step to making DT feel “more native” is to switch from the custom window border it uses to your own GTK/Metacity/Emerald theme. This is a simple un-checking in DT’s preferences.

Dust Persona For Firefox

View Comments
I feel like I've written far to many eye-candy related posts today, so i'll finish on a good one.

This a dust persona for Firefox that matches up with the Dust GTK theme. No extra themes to install, no extra faff. It was created by Filipe Aguia and it's awesome stuff!

If Dust ain't your scene, I previously blogged about a NewWave GTK theme persona here.

NewWave Firefox Themes

View Comments
I've blogged previously about the Dust Firefox theme that seamlessly marries Firefox with the Dust GTK theme.

Now it's the turn of NewWave!

Version One - NewWave Firefox Theme
There is an official NewWave Firefox theme available that matches the widget set of NewWave. It's very sleek and a great choice if you're looking for something less "flashy".

Download: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11239

Version Two - DarkLight Persona
If you use Persona's for Firefox then using the DarkLight theme will match the NewWave theme exceptionally well. I much prefer this 'look' as it resembles the new Firefox for Linux UI designs in many places.

Note: I am also using the meerket extension. This frees up wasted space and moves the main menu bar to the right-hand side.

Dust Themes Megapost – Themes For Empathy, Gwibber, Firefox, aMSN, AWN, Lock-Dialog & tons more

View Comments

Dust is one of the most popular Ubuntu themes. So much so that is even now included in Ubuntu by default.

dust-0917-screenshot-preview

Applications

Whilst all GTK applications can adapt to Dust fine, those not written in GTK or that come with custom themes can look out of place.

Thankfully there are plenty of “Dust” skins around for many of these applications.

Firefox Dust Theme

Firefox has it’s own Official ‘Dust’ theme which you can install by clicking the link below: -

http://launchpad.net/dusttheme-firefox/0.2/0.2.1/+download/dustfox-0.2.1.xpi

To complete the look you can also install a userscript to round the tab bars.

Install Stylish @ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108

Gwibber Dust

If you’re using the stable version of Gwibber, you can install a ‘Dust’ theme for it to better help it blend with your desktop.

Installation:

You’ll need to download it from bzr with:~

bzr branch lp:~l3on/gwibber/dust-theme

To install it, put it into the following folder:

~/.local/share/gwibber/ui/themes/

now just open Gwibber and select the new theme from the preferences dialog.

aMSN

Although i don’t aMSN myself, i have often come across people asking for a Dust aMSN theme. If you are too, then head on over to this thread on the aMSN forums where you can find a specially made Dust theme! Alternatively download from the link below.

Not only is it a gorgeous dust theme, it’s one of the best Empathy themes i’ve seen so far!

Opera 10

Although Web Browser Opera is written in QT, it can still perfectly mimic your GTK theme.

To enable this, first make sure you’re using the QT4 version of Opera 10 AND you have QT4 installed!

Then follow my swift tutorial over @ http://d0od.blogspot.com/2009/07/opera-gtk-theme.html
