Daily 5: Five minimal metacity themes

View Comments

To counterbalance the increasing amount of bright and shiny-buttoned Metacity's of late I present you with some sober minimal Metacity themes to install and enjoy.

Case

White, bright & fast Case is a very minimal Metacity that doesn’t aim to impress with hover-over effects or glow-y buttons just keep out of your way.

nSimpleDark

If light n’ white is not your bag then this dark Metacity should please.

W.I.N.G Metacity

W.I.N.G is a port of the popular Emerald theme of the same name. As with Case above it’s both light, airy and with some unique window control icons adds a bit of identity whilst remaining modally minutest.

Zyonin Dark

We featured some old-skool OS theme in a previous daily 5 and this Metacity takes more than a leaf from their book with it’s classic-OS inspired Metacity controls.

Natural Metacity

Okay… so this one isn’t technically a real Metacity given it’s a mock-up but I had to include it. It’s a great example of how a non-showy minimal Metacity should be and deserve to be made reality.

Elementary Theme Getting New Metacity

View Comments
We love the Elementary theme here at OMG! and we know a large chunk of you do, too. If you're not using the incredibly awesome eHomosapien metacity chances are you're using the default Elementary metacity. You may be interested to know then that this will be getting a bit of a makeover soon (and you can install it now!) Old New Much better! =D Download @ dl.dropbox.com/u/1115768/egtk.tar.gz Install A simple drag n' drop into the theme section of 'Appearance Preferences' installs the Metacity. To use it as your window border select Elementary then 'customize'. Go to the 'Window Border' tab and choose 'eGTK'.

Homosapien Metacity Customizer - Tweak Homosapien Online Then Download It!

View Comments
So we've droned on and on and on about the make-it-default-already proposed Lucid Metacity Homosapien. It's amazing, beautiful stuff. Zac Barton - fast becoming my favourite themer - has now created an online customization tool that allows you to tweak the Homosapien metacity to your liking. And then download it. Zac sells the features of the editor with aplomb: -

  • Want a smaller titlebar or how about a bigger one... no problem.
  • Want the menu icon to be that orange dot again or maybe just stick with the application icon... no problem.
  • Want to define the theme color independent of your system/gtk color or maybe just stick to matching your system/gtk color... no problem.
  • Hate those rounded bottom corners... no problem just turn them off.
Crazy awesome, right? Check it out @ zacbarton.com/homosapien/customizer/

'Homosapien' - Proposed Metacity for Lucid (Now downloadable)

View Comments
'Homosapien' is a proposed Metacity theme for Lucid. Although the author doesn't offer up any more information other than the fact the image above is merely a mockup, it looks an exciting and unique submission in itself. EDIT: Thanks to the awesome zacbarton on GNOME-Look.org, this theme is now downloadable, installable and use-as-you-want-able! Download 'Homosapien' Metacity
